The year was 1902. Cliffird Berryman drew a political
cartoon in
which
he depicted Theodore Roosevelt refusing to shoot a trembling bear
cub.
The country went bear crazy... and a new stuffed animal, the "Teddy
Bear"
was born. A number of toy manufacturers have since claimed to be
the
first to produce the "Original" toy bear, but all claims seem to be
inconclusive. What is not inconclusive, however, is that the
"Teddy
Bear" has become one of the most popular chldren's toys ever
created
and one if not the most sought after of Toy Collectibles.
The folks at Boyds pay tribute to those crazy, pre-Head Bean
days with
the Archive Collection, their own line of fully jointed,
hand embrodried Bears and Hares that have the look and "feel" of an
antique bear that one might see sold at the auction galleries for
many thousands of dollars.
