Glass Eye Studios, beautifully hand crafted "Art Glass" made in Seattle, Washington, U.S.A., since 1979.
The artisans share a marvel and appreciation for blown glass. Their artistic process is steeped with the beauty and mystery of glass making from start to finish.
They begin by applying immerse heat to a mixture of sand to create molton glass. Each individual piece starts as a precise amount of glass on the end of a blowpipe or rod.
The piece takes shape as the artist manipulates the glass with light, but precise touches.
Of course, "Elements", such as various minerals, and perhaps 'dichroic glass' are added to achieve the varying designs and techniques for assorted patterns, and colors.
After a 'new creation' has been completed by the artisan, a quick 'fire polish' is done on the completed piece. The item is then bought to room temperature slowly, over a period of days.
Some pieces are finished using diamond wheel grinders and polishing stones.
This 'paperweight' style Oil Lamp is a mixture of crystal clear glass with scattered 'Dichroic glass' swirled through. 'Dichroic glass' is a special marriage of reflected and transmitted light, which results in an offering of a rainbow of sparkling colors. Metallic highlights give a different visual effect with each new light source and glance.
Combined with the 'dichroic' elements are puffs and swirls like smoke in white, light pink, and rose colors.
The entire piece is contemporary in nature, forming a delicate "mystical" effect with the pattern encased in the crystal.
The globe shape has been slightly 'squared', forming four distinctive sides.
It measures approximately 3" in diameter at the widest points, alternating to 2 5/8" on the flattened sides.
3 1/2" tall with the glass wick holder in place.
The bottom has the etched GES O2 signature. THIS IS A RETIRED PIECE (produced in 2002)!!
