This is a
VINTAGE "Mama Turtle" from approximately 1986. There is a hand marked price written in pencil on the bottom of his left hind leg (of one dollar fifty), from this AND the color we have estimated the age of this piece to be approximately twenty-six (26) years old.
"Mama Turtle" measures 2 3/4" long (from nose to tail), by 1 3/16" wide (at widest point, to tips of toes), 3/4" tall (top of head).
This piece is a high gloss fired glaze finish on a Ceramic clay base that was fired to approximately 2300 degrees Fahrenheit.
All of the Hagen Renaker miniatures listed on our website are "Fired" finishes; thus making them pieces of "China". Most of the pieces undergo at least two (2), with some having three (3) firings in a Ceramic kiln. Temperatures will vary from 2500 degrees to 1650 degrees, dependent as to a greenware (raw clay) firing, a glaze firing, or an overglaze (lustre, gold, or platinum) firing.

Compared to the currently produced "mama turtle", there is LESS detailing on the shell AND the color has a more subdued avocado green tone.
Like the currently produced, it is a semi-translucent glaze which gives nice shading into the cervices and the details of "mama turtle".
The eyes are black dots.
